DreadOut is a third person supernatural horror game where you play as Linda, a high school student trapped in an old abandoned town.
The thing that caught my attention while playing DreadOut was the eerie background sounds. All the sound design emphasizes the terrifying atmosphere of the game, especially since quite a lot of the gameplay happens in obscure, poorly-lighted scenes, where darkness dominates the ambience. The creepy sound design and background music is a big plus by my book.
The graphics are decent but not necessarily impressive or sophisticated. They’re passable at best. As for the story, some might say it’s rather cliché. The official description says that “You play as Linda, a high school student trapped in an old abandoned town.” and that’s obviously a rather ordinary plot. The original, interesting part comes with the gameplay: you have to use your in-game smartphone and take photos to fight off the ghosts. Anyway, the gameplay is based considerably on solving puzzles, which may lead to some frustration as not all puzzles are simple and straightforward.
Cutting long story short, some may love it, some may hate it. If you’re a fan of the horror game genre, you should give a try to DreadOut. Its price is decent and you can often get it on a discount as well.
